Business Students Compete at DECA Regional Competition
Qualify to Compete at DECA State Career Conference
Business students from Aquinas Institute competed in the 2018 DECA Regional Competition on Thursday, January 4. The event took place at RIT and had over 500 business students participating from schools around Monroe County including Brighton, Penfield, Pittsford Sutherland, Pittsford Mendon, Irondequoit, Spencerport, Gates-Chili, Rush-Henrietta, McQuaid, Notre Dame, WNY Tech Academy, Victor, and Aquinas.
DECA (
www.deca.org) enhances the preparation for college and careers by providing co-curricular programs that integrate into classroom instruction, applying learning in the context of business, connecting to business and the community and promoting competition. Students in DECA leverage their experience to become academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible, and experienced leaders.
There are nearly 40 different competitive marketing events for students to participate in and learn about in the field of marketing and management. Aquinas students in Mrs. Taylor’s and Mr. Wise’s business classes traveled to RIT (a national DECA sponsor) to test their knowledge in their chosen event, which includes both team and individual events. There are only three finalists awarded for team events and five for individual events.
The winners earned the right to represent Monroe County (Region 10) at the DECA State Career Conference (SCC) in their respective event. The SCC will take place March 7-9 at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center where over 2,000 business students from around the state will compete.
