A Special Message from the President & Principal

Dear Aquinas Family,

In light of what's happening in our nation and in our communities, we would like to take a moment and be mindful that as an Aquinas family, we stand together. Our Profile of a Graduate calls us to "Embrace the idea that diversity is a gift from God" and to "Take pride in ethnic heritage and all aspects of life." We must be focused on the good in others and we must be Christ to one another.

These same principles are reiterated in a piece from the US Catholic Conference of Bishops called "Open Wide Our Hearts: The Enduring Call to Love - A Pastoral Letter Against Racism."

Love compels each of us to resist racism courageously. It requires us to reach out generously to the victims of this evil, to assist the conversion needed in those who still harbor racism, and to begin to change policies and structures that allow racism to persist. Overcoming racism is a demand of justice, but because Christian love transcends justice, the end of racism will mean that our community will bear fruit beyond simply the fair treatment of all. After all, 'Within [the human] family,' as St. John Paul II said, 'each people preserves and expresses its own identity and enriches others with its gifts of culture.'

Our job as Christians is to love others unconditionally, it is what we teach our students and what we expect of them as they go out into the world. We pray for peace and healing for all those who are persecuted.

Sincerely,

Anthony Cook '99
President
