Ron Bowks '66 Tribute Concert

The Ron Bowks Tribute Concert will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019 from 2:00 – 4:30 p.m. at the Greece Baptist Church (1230 Long Pond Rd.). The musical tribute to the conductor, musician and friend will feature: Kodak Concert Band, Gateswingers, Rochester Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra, and IUCC Trombone Choir.

Donations will be accepted for the Rochester Education Foundation, supporting literacy, music and college access for Rochester students.

Bowks, a 1966 graduate of Aquinas, had a musical career that began in childhood and continually blossomed throughout his life. At Aquinas, he was drum major of the state championship band.

Ron was awarded numerous state and national championships throughout his career as both a performer and a leader, and served with distinction as a member of the United States Marine Corps band. He taught several local high school marching bands and drum and bugle corps and held the position of drum major for many units.

Ron was an adjudicator for both the New York State School Music Association and for the Rochester Broadway Theater League. He directed many community theater and high school musicals and returned, for a time, to Aquinas as interim band director.

He conducted the Kodak concert band, led the Rochester Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra, the Gateswingers Big Band, Papa Joe’s Crawfish Stew Dixieland band, and performed with the salsa band Grupo Calle Uno and his own jazz combo.
