AQMS students deliver Book and a Blanket bundles to local schools
The Book and a Blanket service project is an annual Aquinas Middle School tradition that has promoted literacy and kindness here in the Maplewood Neighborhood for 11 years now. For those who are unfamiliar with the project, it’s exactly what it sounds like – books wrapped in no-sew fleece blankets that are then delivered to local school children.

To kick-off the project, Aquinas middle school students held a two-day mission collection to raise money for the fleece that would be cut by volunteers and tied by students in religion classes. This year the mission collection raised an impressive $941.

Once the fringe of the blankets was tied, students paired the blankets with new and gently used books donated by AQ families and friends, and tied the packages with ribbon.

On Tuesday, April 30, middle school students visited classrooms at School #7 and the Rochester International Academy to deliver the Book and a Blanket bundles and spend time reading and playing with the children at these schools.

Over the past 11 years, the Aquinas Middle School has donated over 2,000 books and blankets to children here in the neighborhood.
Thank you to all the families who generously donated books, money and their time. Your support is a true gift.
