6th Grade Field Trip to Frontier Field

Sponsored by Class of '64 Teachers' Fund
Sixth graders at The Aquinas Institute had a fun day out at Frontier Field for a Rochester Red Wings game on Thursday, May 17. The field trip, which coincided with the Physical Education Department's baseball unit, was the first professional baseball game for many of the students who attended.

“Seeing it on a professional level gives the game a whole new meaning and helps their overall understanding of what we’re doing in class,” said PE teacher, Sean Lebeau ‘98. “They got to see exactly how the game is supposed to be played – from pitching to catching to throwing people out, hitting the ball, and even some of the strategy involved.”

The field trip was made possible with a grant from the Class of ’64 Teachers’ Fund, which was established to supplement educational opportunities such as this one. Members of the Class of 1964, who created this fund, attended the game so that they could meet future members of the AQ Alumni Family. Nearly 80 students, chaperones, and alums sat together in the stands wearing maroon and white with pride.

Sixth grader, Stephen Leonardo, thanked his predecessors for making the day possible noting that it was “very generous of them to help us even though they hadn’t met our class; they did it out of the goodness of their hearts.”

In the spirit of paying it forward, students who attended the game each donated a $1 to the Class of ’64 Teachers’ Fund for future educational opportunities.
