Boxers End Season With Bouts
Boxers from The Aquinas Institute did not let Friday’s massive snowfall prevent them from competing in the culminating event they worked so hard for throughout the season – The 86th Annual Mission Bouts.
This is truly one of the most unique events in all of high school sports as Aquinas is one of the only high schools in the country to offer a co-ed boxing program. The mission of the Richard Corbett ‘56 Boxing Program at Aquinas is to provide a positive influence in the physical and emotional development of each student participating in the program, in a way that is safe, fun and encourages academic achievement.
At the bouts, fans had the opportunity to watch matches between both male and female fighters from the middle and high school, who were matched based on gender, skill level, and weight. Prior to entering the ring, the boxers heard an inspirational message from special guest, Iris Zimmermann – a member of the U.S. fencing team at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and a resident of Pittsford.
Please congratulate the boxers on a great night that was a demonstration in both skill and sportsmanship. An additional congratulations goes out to the boxers who earned the following awards:
