AQMS girls learn life skills while training for 5K
After ten weeks of training, the AQMS Heart and Sole team took part in the Girls on the Run 5k on Saturday, June 10 at Monroe Community College.

The team’s participants, led by Mrs. Baschnagel and Mrs. Small, included sixth graders Alex Enright, Mia Campbell, Ci Ci Cho, Ally Namorato, Paige Parsons and Tala Phillps; seventh graders Anna Rankin, Johanna D'Armiento, Gwen Bushen and Mia Kipp; and eighth graders Brianna Slingerland and Alexia Turpyn.

The 5k run is the culminating event that takes place after teams complete a 24-lesson curriculum that teaches life skills through dynamic, conversation based lessons and running games. Organized by Girls on the Run – a nationwide program aimed at inspiring girls to be joyful, healthy and confident – the 5k becomes a tangible sense of achievement for the girls and teaches them how to set and achieve goals in life.

Middle school guidance counselor and club moderator Kassy Small said, “We are so proud of these amazing young women. It was an honor to watch these ladies grow throughout the season and we’re looking forward to next year!”
