Concours de Poésie

Four students wow at French poetry competition
Four Aquinas French students read French poems at the annual "Concours de Poésie" held at Allendale Columbia on Thursday, May 18.

After more than a month of working on pronunciation, expression and delivery of the poems after school, Cynthia Offerman (level 2), Gabrielle Tremiti (level 3), and Victoria Myers (level 3) all performed extremely well and received a certificate of participation at the award ceremony that followed the competition.

French teacher Ms. Jen Rybak said, "I was so very proud of their progress, and although they were nervous to stand at a podium in front of an auditorium full of people and read in a foreign language, they all succeeded!"

Junior Lauryn Whitfield, who read "Demain, dès l'aube" by Victor Hugo with amazing expression and near perfect pronunciation, won 2nd place among the 18 participants.

The Concours de Poésie is a precursor to the main multi-language poetry competition, which will be held at Nazareth College in the fall of 2017.

Please be sure to congratulate these young ladies on a job BIEN FAIT (well done)!

VIVE la poésie!
