Gatti '23 Recognized in JA Stock Market Challenge

Aquinas sophomore Andrew Gatti was recently recognized for his stock picks in the 2021 Junior Achievement Stock Market Challenge. His award, aptly named “Diamond in the Rough,” is given to a student who successfully invests in an unconventional stock.

“I did my own research and after talking to one of my mentors, I chose to make some crypto and tech trades, which did really well,” said Andrew. “This competition has been really fun, I’m learning a lot.”

Participants in the competition were given $1 million of fictitious capital to invest in stocks based on real-life companies. Experts in the field of investing then award students for their portfolios based on certain criteria.

The competition is part of the Junior Achievement Take Stock in Your Future Program, which gives students a fundamental understanding of investing and how the stock market works through a combination of in-school and self-guided lessons. Andrew and the students enrolled in Mr. Skidmore’s Entrepreneurship and Sports/Entertainment Marketing classes have all been taking part in the three-week program, which wraps up next week.
