“The Wright Stuff” Flag Football Tournament to benefit Officer Denny Wright will be held on Sunday, November 17 from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Wegman Sports Complex at The Aquinas Institute of Rochester (1127 Dewey Ave., Rochester, NY 14613).
The tournament, which consists of eight teams of local law enforcement officers, is a fundraising event for RPD Officer Denny Wright, who has been part of the force for 22 years. On October 4, 2019, Officer Wright was viciously attacked while responding to a domestic disturbance call in the Rochester community. The injuries he sustained ultimately cost him his eyesight.
Proceeds from “The Wright Stuff” Flag Football Tournament will go toward Officer Wright’s medical expenses, and will help with the cost of home care, which is essential in his recovery and rehabilitation.
Admission to the tournament is free, however, donations will be accepted at the gate. Event organizers will also be selling 50/50 raffle tickets throughout the tournament. Food and drinks, as well as fundraising apparel, will be for sale. Three live performances by local bands Feedback, Elmer Cobb Band, and Worthy Duncan are also scheduled.
The US ARMY 401 Civil Affairs Battalion will be on the field for the Presentation of Colors during the National Anthem sung by Aquinas sophomore Lexi Phillips.
A Mass will be held in the school’s auditorium prior to the tournament beginning at 7:00 a.m. All are welcome to attend. For more information about the tournament, please contact Sgt. Brian Phillips at Brian.Phillips@CityofRochester.gov
