Sophomore Mock Interviews

Preparing students for college and career
On Friday, December 14, Aquinas sophomores sat down with AQ alumni for the annual Sophomore Mock Interviews – a program coordinated by the Aquinas Counseling Center, English Department and Alumni Office, which aims to counsel students on how to prepare for and present themselves at an interview.

Prior to the day, sophomores learn the ins and outs of resume and cover letter writing, the application process, and how to prepare for and standout at an interview in their English classes. They are then given a job to apply for and write their resumes and cover letters, which then culminate in a live interview with an alumnus.

This year’s panel of sophomore mock interviewers included Kimberly Carter ’92, Peter Fornarola ’05, Brian Magee ’05, Jaclyn Niewiemski ’07, Nicole Scherberger ’96, Karina Amyot ’89, Jahmar Elliott ’09, Nicholas Gambino ’98, Marissa Gionta ’08, and Michael Quinlan ’95. After the interview, each alumnus was responsible for providing students with feedback on professional appearance, communication skills, maturity, confidence, and motivation.

While the position students applied for was fictitious, the writing and interviewing skills they learned and cultivated leading up to the mock interviews are ones that will serve them now and in the future.

We’d like to thank all of the interviewers who took time out of their busy professional lives to provide current AQ students with this valuable experience.
