I am AQ

I am AQ

At Aquinas, Goodness, Discipline and Knowledge are at the foundation of everything we do. That tradition, set forth by the Basilian Fathers, takes on an even greater meaning in today’s ever-changing world.
Our belief is that education extends beyond the classroom. Academics are the top priority and we challenge all students to open their eyes to the endless opportunities available to them.
In addition to becoming responsible, caring citizens, our hope is that all Aquinas students discover the unique talents and abilities that make them who they are and inspire them to change the world.

Each year, 98% of Aquinas graduates go confidentlyon to college. To prepare for this endeavor, Aquinas challenges students with a college preparatory curriculum that exceeds New York State standards. In addition, Aquinas offers a variety of advanced placement and dual credit courses so that students have an opportunity to earn college credits before they even leave high school. Academic support is also readily available to ensure students reach their full potential.

Athletics at Aquinas complement the academic program and are part of the educational process. Aquinas athletes are encouraged to excel on the court and in the field, but most importantly in the classroom. Numerous Li’l Irish athletic teams are recognized each season as New York State Scholar Athlete Teams. Aquinas’ athletic facilities are some of the best in Section V and our state-of-the-art fitness center and fieldhouse promote fitness for life.

Our mission at Aquinas is to teach students of all faiths Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge through a comprehensive curriculum supported by gospel values. The Campus Ministry program offers students an opportunity to explore and express their faith with the guidance of the Director of Campus Ministry by leading morning prayer, organizing school-wide mass, assisting with prayer services and retreats, and acting as Eucharistic Ministers.

The Aquinas Middle School recently opened a new 6th grade, and with it, a world of opportunity for our youngest students yet. Aquinas Middle School students have their own identity, while still having all the advantages of being part of the Aquinas community. Caring and supportive faculty, challenging curriculum and our state-of-the-art facilities prepare AQMS students for a successful transition to high school.

In order to educate the whole student and help them to become responsible, caring citizens, Aquinas requires that all students complete community service each year. In fact, most students exceed the minimum number of community service hours that are required. The theology department also requires that students participate in class retreats, which provide them an opportunity to connect with their peers, while growing closer to God.

I am an ARTIST

An award-winning fine arts program allows AQ students to express themselves creatively and stand out in the crowd. A variety of art classes encourage students to constantly develop their artistic skills. Our student artists showcase their work in area art shows and in our annual Spring Art Show. The Aquinas music program features both bands and choirs at the middle and high school level. These outstanding musicians perform locally and in several concerts on campus.

At Aquinas, our students benefit from state-of-the-art technology in the classroom and throughout campus. Multimedia projectors and interactive whiteboards, traveling lap top carts for class use, six computer labs, wireless internet access, a portable production studio for broadcasting live events at school and on the web, as well as an online grade book for tracking student progress throughout the year are just some of the ways Aquinas is preparing students for 21st century success.

Aquinas offers a variety of courses to provide students with a well-rounded education. Great care is taken to ensure all students are properly placed based on their academic strengths and needs. Also, students are encouraged to explore courses based on their interests. This “personalized education” approach will better prepare AQ students for college. For example, students interested in science can explore forensics and physics, while our future writers can take creative writing and journalism.

The Aquinas Institute has been a Rochester tradition since 1902. Numerous generations of families who have walked these halls have gone on to find success within the Rochester community and throughout the world. Aquinas is forever proud of the more than 19,000 alumni who have made the Aquinas tradition part of their own. Aquinas Evermore!

The Aquinas dance program gives students a one of-a-kind opportunity. With four different levels of dance, as well as a middle school dance option, both boys and girls have several opportunities to explore a creative approach to movement. The AQ theatre program rounds out our first-rate fine arts program. Student actors perform in three performances throughout the year, as well as student-directed plays in the spring.

Aquinas students are encouraged to grow inside and outside of the classroom. Students are offered numerous opportunities to step outside of their comfort zone and set themselves apart. In an ever changing and competitive world, programs such as student council, women’s leadership and DECA allow students to build their confidence and have the tools to be successful leaders in college and in our community.

Aquinas fosters a special bond that brings us all together to form the AQ family. New students are immediately welcomed into our community as their Big Brother or Big Sister helps them with the transition to a new school. Peer tutors from National Honor Society are always available to offer extra academic support. However, the bottom line is that AQ students are always there for one another.
