AQMS continues Book and a Blanket tradition
Traditions are part of what make the Christmas season so special and one of those traditions near and dear to us is Aquinas’ 7th and 8th grade Book and a Blanket service project.

For those who are unfamiliar with Book and a Blanket, it is exactly what it sounds like – a book packaged with a fleece blanket, which is then given to a local child. Simply stated, it’s our kids helping kids in our own neighborhood.

To get the project started, middle school students and families donate new and gently used books and then 7th and 8th graders take up a mission collection to purchase fleece to make no-sew blankets. Parent, faculty, and staff volunteers then cut the blankets, complete with fringe, which AQMS 7th and 8th grade students then spend a day tying in religion class. Once the blankets and books have been packaged with ribbon, the students make their special delivery.

On Monday, December 19, 7th and 8th grade students visited the children of School #7 to deliver the bundles and spend some time reading and playing. Thank you to all the families who generously donated books, money and their time. Your support is a true gift.
