NYS Troopers & Sperr Family Present Scholarship Check

Troop E Commander, Major Rick Allen, First Sgt. Brent Bowman, along with Jean and Andy Sperr presented Aquinas with a $5,000 check for the AJ Sperr '91 Endowed Memorial Scholarship.

Jean and Andy are the proud parents of fallen NYS Trooper and AQ alum AJ Sperr '91, who was shot and killed in the line of duty after stopping two bank robbery suspects in Chemung County in 2006.

Funding for this scholarship comes from the annual Trooper Foundation Golf Tournament, and since the scholarship was established, the State Troopers have donated over $40,000 to it.

The student who applies for and is selected to receive the AJ Sperr '91 Endowed Memorial Scholarship is presented with it at the Academic Awards Ceremony held at Aquinas in June.
