Dear Parents/Guardians and 8th Graders,

Aquinas Junior High is working on making your year-end events special and we want to make sure the following activities are on your calendar.

The entire Aquinas Junior High will have a service day on Friday, May 25th.  We will be doing preseason clean-up at the Bayview YMCA.  We will leave Aquinas at 8:15 AM and return to Aquinas by 11:00 AM.  This will leave ample time for your student to catch their bus as this is a ½ day of school.  We are also looking for parents to volunteer with us on this day.   If you are interested, please contact Mrs. Mayeu at 254-2020, ext. 1068.

On the evening of Friday, May 25th, the eighth graders will have a formal dance in the Student Union.  Students are not allowed to invite any one from the high school or outside of Aquinas Junior High to this dance.  The cost is $10.00 and will include cookies and punch.  In addition, everyone in attendance will receive a favor as a memento.  The time of the dance is from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM.  The theme for the dance is “City of Lights”.  The dress code for this event will be the same as for the Moving-Up Ceremony which is listed below.

The AQJH is also planning on having a fun day for the 8th graders at Seabreeze Amusement Park on Friday, June 15th.  The cost for each 8th grader will be $16.00.  This payment will cover the entrance fee to the park, as well as the cost of transportation.  Students will come to school as usual on this day.  We will leave for the park at 9:30 AM and return back to school at 2:30 PM so the students can catch their bus home.  Reservations for the park are necessary and therefore we need to know if your student will be participating in this event.  If we do not garner enough interest in the Seabreeze trip from the students we will have to cancel this event.  Please fill out the form below indicating if your student will or will not be attending this event and return it to the AQJH main office by April 18th.  In addition, if your student is planning on attending this event, please also fill out the enclosed permission slip and also return it to the AQJH main office by April 18th.

The Moving-Up Ceremony will be held in the Aquinas “Thomas F. Bell” Auditorium on Wednesday, June 20th at 7:00 PM.  We encourage you to invite your grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles, and any other family members to this special occasion. There will be a reception following the ceremony for you and your family in the Student Union.

The dress code for the Moving-Up Ceremony is as follows:

Girls must wear a nice dress or a skirt and blouse combination.  No strapless or spaghetti strap type dresses will be allowed.  If heels are worn, they should be of appropriate height as the students will need to climb stairs up onto the stage.

Boys should wear a shirt and tie combination with dress pants and dress shoes.  Suits or sport coats may be worn, but they are not necessary.

All students will be provided with a corsage or boutonniere to wear for the ceremony.

If you have any questions in regards to any of these matters, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for sending your child to Aquinas Junior High and we hope that this has been a memorable year.

Sincerely yours,

Mr. Bryan D. Mooney

Dear Parents and Guardians of AQJH Students,

It doesn’t seem possible that we are getting ready for the start of the 4th quarter and the end of the school year.  It seems as though the first day of school was yesterday.

The purpose of this letter is to let you know the dates of some very important events that will be coming up over the next 10 weeks.  Please make sure that you mark these events on your calendars.

It is extremely important that your student be in school on the days that all NYS exams are administered.  The exams are timed exams, so students must not be late to school on the days that the exams are scheduled.  They will not receive any additional time if they are late.  This testing information is also applicable for all final exams that will take place in June.
