Monroe County Executive, Maggie Brooks joined AQ Student Council members and Politics in Government students in the Basilian room for lunch.
Several civic-minded AQ students recently had the opportunity to participate in an informal luncheon with Monroe County Executive, Maggie Brooks.
Brooks provided an overview of her responsibilities as the County Executive and described the dynamic relationship between the County, City and State Governments. She also answered questions about her views on leadership, policy decisions and privatization of government services.
"I have a much better understanding of what happens in politics and in County Government," said senior, Robbie Manners."
Representatives of the Aquinas Student Council, and students taking the Politics in Government and Criminal Justice courses were invited to the lunch, organized by AQ alumnus, Charles Schiano '79.
"It's rare that someone decides to go into politics as a career choice," said Brooks, in answer to a question about how one would enter the political arena. "I was a television news reporter before I ran for office, but many politicians start out as attorneys. Most elected officials are motivated through the experience they gain in another career, or through participation in another form of service," she explained.
